Harvest

Orchard harvest software with planned vs. actual yield by lot

Know how much fruit you have to sell, and how much you still owe.

Your team logs every harvest entry by lot and crew, even without signal. Arlo matches it against what each buyer takes, day by day and against plan. It also keeps the harvest cost current.

Fruit leaves the estate every week. You learn too late how much there was and what it cost.

Today

  1. Harvest goes into a notebook or arrives on WhatsApp.

The scale tickets reach Excel days later, if they reach it at all.

  2. Nobody knows how much fruit there is to sell.

What was harvested and what each buyer took are in separate sheets.

  3. The harvest plan and the scale never get compared.

Weather changes the harvest, and the plan is still last week's message.

  4. You learn what the harvest cost after you've paid it.

And harvesting can be close to half the year's cost, 40 to 48% for Mexican lime and berries (FIRA, 2024–2026).

  5. And you promise fruit you don't have, or sell it below cost.

Without knowing what a kilo costs you, any price looks good.

With Arlo

  1. Every entry has its lot, its crew, and its weight, even without signal.

  2. You see the fruit on hand each day, harvested against sold to each buyer.

  3. You compare planned kg against actual kg, lot by lot, every week.

  4. Arlo keeps harvest cost current against the plan.

  5. You negotiate knowing how much fruit you have and what it cost.

How harvest gets logged and balanced.

  1. Logged in the lot, with or without signal

The supervisor enters the lot, the crew, and the units, and Arlo works out the net weight. Without signal, the phone saves the entry and uploads it when the connection returns.

Planned against harvested, lot by lot.

For every crop, you compare the plan with what was harvested. For banana and plantain, you also see bagging by ribbon color and a projection of the bunches still to harvest.

Compare the plan with the harvest, lot by lot

Arlo sets the week's harvest plan against actual kg by lot and by harvest group. When weather changes the harvest, you see which lot fell short before you commit fruit to a buyer.

  • Performance against plan by lot, group, and crop type
  • Arlo keeps the original plan even when you re-plan the week
  • An entry on a day with no cycle creates the harvest cycle on its own

For banana and plantain, every ribbon is a cohort

A banana bunch is harvested 10 to 12 weeks after bagging (Acta Agronómica, 2020), and the ribbon marks its week. The bagging grid counts bunches bagged by lot, week, and ribbon color. It subtracts the ones harvested and lost, and shows which are ready to harvest.

  • A warning when a ribbon is reused on the same lot
  • Cohorts flagged for review 4 weeks after their expected harvest
  • Write off with a note, and reopen if it was a mistake

Project bunches and kg for the weeks ahead

From the bunches in the field and each lot's Average Bunch Weight, Arlo projects how many bunches and kg you will harvest over the next 4 weeks. Every Monday, Arlo turns that week's projection into the harvest schedule.

  • Average Bunch Weight by lot and week, or the crop's if none was weighed
  • To harvest, scheduled, and harvested in the same cell
  • Arlo adds harvested bunches to Harvest as kg

Frequently asked questions

How do you track harvest yield by block in an orchard or grove?
By recording every harvest entry against its lot. Each lot carries its area, so Arlo works out kg per hectare or acre for every lot in the cost center report, next to its cost per kilo and average price per kilo.
How do you schedule citrus or avocado harvest by block and crew?
In a weekly harvest cycle. You schedule kg by lot, harvest group, and day, and Arlo sets every entry that reaches the scale against that plan. The cycle keeps the original plan even when you re-plan the week.
How do you compare planned vs. actual harvest?
With the harvest cycle. Arlo puts scheduled kg against the kg that arrived, by lot, group, and crop type, and shows performance against plan while the week is still open.
How do you calculate harvest cost per acre and per pound?
Arlo keeps each harvest cycle's planned and actual cost and adds it to the lot, next to labor and supplies. With the same lot's remisiones it works out the cost per kilo or pound and each lot's margin.
How do banana growers project bunches from bagging ribbon colors?
With bagging cohorts. A cohort is the bunches bagged on one lot, in one week, with one ribbon color. Arlo subtracts the ones harvested and lost, and projects the bunches still in the field into their expected harvest week, with kg at the lot's Average Bunch Weight. It applies to banana and plantain.
Can crews log harvest without cell signal?
Yes. Arlo saves harvest entries on the phone without a connection and syncs them when signal returns. Until then, the list shows how many entries are pending sync.
How do you reconcile harvested fruit with what each buyer received?
With the cycle's inventory balance: opening stock, plus harvest by lot, minus sales to each buyer, day by day and against plan. It tells you how much fruit you have on hand or how much you still need to deliver.
Does it work for grain harvest?
No. Arlo is built for perennial crops harvested in cycles: citrus, avocado, oil palm, banana and plantain, coffee, cacao, berries, and orchard fruit. Grain and storage operations have tools built for them.
